If your camper has had a serious illness or hospitalization in the last 12 months, we ask that you fill out the Health Exam form below and email it to us at kayakcommcamp@gmail.com.

PLEASE have your camper pack their bags! But it's so much faster if you do it, right?! Well...we ask this for a few reasons. First, if their unit leader is telling your camper to pack their sunscreen and bug spray and they are already running late because the campers wouldn't get out of bed or because they chew each bite 37 times and your camper (who did not pack their own bags) exclaims "I don't know where my mom put it!"...you can see where this story is going. Second, it's good for them! They are learning to be independent, organized (hopefully!) and self-reliant! Yes, you should definitely CHECK their bag before you leave the house (please do!).
At a minimum, have them help you pack.
We recommend printing or saving these driving directions due to spotty cell phone service and varying GPS instructions.
Arrival time is between 1:00 – 2:30 PM - NO EARLIER!!
You are responsible for your camper's transportation to and from camp.
Note: Lunch will NOT be provided.
Our Camp Nurse, Patches, and some of her helpers will check your camper for lice and review their medical paperwork. If your camper will be taking medication at camp, this is when you will turn in the medication form. You can save everyone time at check in by bringing this form already filled out with you to camp. This is located below, on the Forms page and also in the pre-camp email you received.
After they're cleared to be at camp, you and your camper will tag their bags - if they have 3 bags, they need to be labeled 1/3, 2/3, 3/3. After bags are tagged, find your unit's sandwich board and put luggage on the tarp next to it.
MAKE SURE YOUR CAMPER'S DAYPACK STAYS WITH THEM!
Fluid Intake…Hydration, hydration, hydration!
A reusable water bottle with your camper’s name on it NEEDS to be sent to camp with her. Dehydration is a concern at camp due to increased physical activity, heat and lower humidity. Encourage your camper to drink lots of water, at least one glass at every meal and throughout the day. If you feel that it will help, your camper may bring hydration packets to mix in their water bottles. It must be an electrolyte enhancement! Unit leaders will keep these stored separately and labeled.
Please also remind them to use lots of sunscreen!!!
On Saturday, before parents arrive to pick up their campers, everyone packs up their belongings. We try not to wake up earlier than normal and we eat a simple breakfast. Each unit also has an end-of-camp cleaning duty that each camper must help with. Volunteers help get camper's gear from units and to the flag area. All of this must be done before our 11:00 closing ceremony. Parents are welcome to come to the closing ceremony, but the gate will only be open from approximately 10:40-10:50. You can come in and park and head to the flag circle. Remember, no animals allowed at camp, so if Fido is in the car, he has to stay, but be aware there are not a lot of shaded areas in the parking lot. Once the flag ceremony starts, please be respectful, remove your hat/sunglasses and stand at attention.
Also, please note that the lodge (including bathrooms) will have already been cleaned for the next camp coming in at 3:00. If you need to use the bathroom, you will need to use the latrine by the flag circle.
Please do not come early and expect to take your child out of camp before our closing. This completely disrupts the units and volunteers. If you are coming in late, please do not be later than 11:15. At this time, we are done with our ceremony and the volunteers want to go home too!
Don't forget to bring a photo ID - this is required to pick up your camper. Please be sure to double check their luggage and take ALL of their things! Many times, your camper will bring in 3 bags but end up going home with 4 or 5! Make sure to check our lost & found. If they brought medication, remember to pick it up from our health supervisor.
If Your Camper Takes Medication - Save Time @ Drop Off and Fill This Out in Advance! (pdf)
DownloadEveryone loves to get mail at camp. Please keep letters positive and upbeat to help prevent homesickness. Don't talk about how much you miss them or all the fun activities you and the family are doing at home without them! Please do not send care packages.
Camp mail can be VERY slow, so if you choose to mail your letters, we recommend you do so the week prior to camp. If you would like, you can indicate the day the letter is for in large print on the envelope, and we will deliver to your camper that day.
We will have bags/boxes available at check-in to drop off letters letters if you would like to save postage and ensure that your camper receives your mail.
WE WILL NOT DELIVER MAIL TO CAMPERS ON SATURDAY! If you write letters in advance and use our drop off system, you may have them delivered Monday through Friday.
