lodging at camp is separated into "units"

Campers will be placed into age-appropriate units (think cabin groups) by the Directors according to registration numbers and available staff (volunteers!). All units, with the exception of Pioneer, span only two grades. See below unit descriptions for more information about grades and units!

Unit placement letters are sent via email to the primary parent email entered during registration. We will make every effort to have those out within one week of the close of registration.

Hacienda

Hacienda

Hacienda

Perfect for our youngest adventurers (2nd-3rd grade), Hacienda brings slumber party dreams to life! Between the cozy floor mats, the secret-style loft, and stunning waterfront views, it’s no wonder this abode is a total fan favorite!

The fun doesn't stop at the door—Hacienda campers get to enjoy some me-time with manicures and hair do's by the Lower Tilakum campers, paddleboard with Pioneer and just like the older kids, they get to try their hand at archery!

 The Deets

  • Comforts: Fully equipped with heat, electricity, a kitchen (fridge/stove), and full bathrooms with showers.
  • Sleeping: An open upstairs area with a loft and mattresses provided.
  • Bonus: Your very own outdoor fire circle for the ultimate s'mores sessions!

Hilltop

Hacienda

Hacienda

Nestled in the timber with a view of the water, Hilltop is the ultimate home base for 4th-5th grade campers. Living in classic canvas tents, your camper will drift off on a cozy platform bed to the sound of bullfrogs and the quiet lap of the lake on the shore. Life at Hilltop is all about that authentic

camp magic, featuring:

  • Classic Vibes: Lantern-lit evenings, propane stove cooking, and the legendary "Butte Pass" biffy.
  • Prime Location: Just a quick stroll to main camp via wooden boardwalks for easy access to all of our favorite activities.
  • The Experience: A week filled with new best friends, outdoor skill-building, crafts, and campfires filled with laughs, stories and sweet treats.

Lakeside

Hacienda

Lakeside

Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, aka Lakeside, home to 5th & 6th graders for their week with Kayak.  Centrally located right in the heart of camp, you're just steps away from the lodge, craft house, and swim dock.  Unit Highlights

  • The Cabins: Open-air cabins with six bunks each—perfect for catching up with friends and making new ones.
  • The Perks: Unbeatable access to the boat house and swim dock for maximum waterfront time.
  • The Growth: Campers head home with boosted confidence, new skills, and—fair warning—a duffel full of dirty clothes!

Yurt

Lower Tilakum

Lakeside

Welcome to Yurt Village! Perched on sturdy wooden platforms, our yurts offer a unique and cozy home base tucked right into the trees. Connected by scenic boardwalks directly to the Forest Glade amphitheater, you’re just a stone's throw away from all the main camp action and activities.

  • The Look: Classic circular yurts that blend comfort with the great outdoors.
  • The Color: We are obsessed with ORANGE! Campers are encouraged to pack as much orange gear, clothing, and accessories as possible to show their unit spirit.
  •  The Best Part:
Yurt Village features its own private fireplace, making it the ultimate spot for nightly s'mores and unit bonding under the stars!

Ark

Lower Tilakum

Lower Tilakum

Welcome aboard The Ark, our premier skill-based unit designed for adventurous campers going into

6th & 7th grade who are ready to master the water! This isn't just a place to sleep—it’s an intensive deep dive into canoeing excellence. Under the guidance of leaders expert in small craft safety, you’ll level up your outdoor know-how through:

  • Technical Mastery: Learn advanced paddle strokes and boat control.
  • Safety Skills: Work through boat rescues, capsize recovery, and safe position switching.
  • Leadership: Build confidence and teamwork as you navigate the lake daily.

The Floating Basecamp:
The Ark is a one-of-a-kind, single-room floating cabin (securely moored!) featuring a wrap-around dock. Because you’re living on the water, you’ll canoe to and from every camp event, turning every transition into a skill-building session.
Due to the advanced nature of this unit, campers must:

  • Pass at least the "blue" swim test (50 yards)
  • Tread water for 5 minutes
  • Pass the Tippy Canoe Test

Space is extremely limited, and you can only join the Ark Crew once in your camping career—so make it count!

Lower Tilakum

Lower Tilakum

Lower Tilakum

Welcome to Lower Tilakum, the ultimate "home away from home" for 7th & 8th graders, located in a cozy daylight basement unit! As one of the closest units to the action, you’ll spend less time walking and more time bonding.

The Space

  • Layout: A one-room cabin with bunks arranged in a     U-shape, specifically designed to create the ultimate group connection.
  • Modern Comforts: Fully equipped with electricity, a full kitchen, your very own "flushies" and showers right inside.

The Experience
Lower Tilakum is all about community and charm. During the week, campers will:

  • Host a tea party
  • Learn the art of setting a table
  • Enjoy dedicated time for self-care

Since you have a solid roof and electricity, the vibe is all about "cozy slumber party." A few tips on how to pack:

  • Bedding: A sleeping bag or twin sheet set/comforter and your favorite pillow.
  • Footwear: Sturdy sneakers for camp and a pair of indoor-only slippers or cozy socks.
  • Toiletries: A shower caddy to keep things organized in the shared indoor bathroom can be quite helpful.
  • Mess Kit/Dunk Bag: Since the kitchen is fully-equipped, bringing your own mess kit is optional.
  • Optional: A Tea Party outfit and/or hat.

Totem

Primitive

Pioneer

Welcome to Totem Landing, the ultimate rustic retreat for

9th-10th grade campers who don't mind being lulled to sleep by the sounds of our bullfrog friends in the nearby swamp! To get here, you’ll need to row, row, row your boat (don't worry—rowing instructions are included!), so come prepared to either learn how or hone your existing skills!

The Layout

  • The Cabins: Three-sided, open-faced rustic cabins designed for maximum fresh air. Most cabins face one another, meaning your friends are always just a few steps away.
  • The Village: Features a large, covered cook shelter featuring a cold-water sink and a 4-burner camp stove. There is also a beautiful central fire pit overlooking the lake for evening gatherings.
  • Space to Explore: There is plenty of room to roam and enjoy nature (just remember to always bring a buddy!).

Water Safety

  • No Swim Test Required: Unlike the Ark, you do not need to pass a swim test to stay here.
  • The Requirement: Every camper must take the Tippy Canoe Test to ensure everyone stays safe while navigating to and from the landing.

Pioneer

It might be the longest walk to activities, but staying at Pioneer is absolutely worth the trek for our

high school-age campers! Tucked deep in the forest and set back from the lake, this unit offers a peaceful, adventurous escape designed for our older, more experienced campers. Pioneer Perks

  • The Abodes: Classic A-frame cabins with plenty of bunks for all your best friends.
  • The Hub: A large, covered cook shelter and a newly upgraded private dock just for your unit.
  • The Traditions: Get ready to hike, roar around the campfire, participate in a "polar bear swim" and belt out the legendary Pioneer song.

Primitive

Primitive

Primitive

Step up to the Primitive unit—the ultimate outdoor experience for our oldest, most experienced campers (12th grade or June graduates)! As the seniors of Camp Lyle McLeod, you’ll trade the cabin life for a true, rugged adventure.

The Experience:

  • You are the only unit that doesn't sleep in a structured cabin. Instead, you’ll be sleeping in a large tent with all of your unit-mates, embracing a more authentic lifestyle that encourages community and camaraderie.
  •  Master the art of Dutch oven cooking and learn how to make a delicious dinner!
  • The ultimate highlight of the week happens when we trade in our tent for a night of sleeping under the stars in...CANOES!
